Mashburn Hall at Roadrunner Place Q+A

Greetings Roadrunners!

As the building comes closer to completion, we wanted to take the time to share with you some common questions we are receiving from students.

Q: How many floors are there in the new building?
A: The building will be four stories tall. Residential Life Offices will be located on the second floor by the main lobby. Large and small group spaces will be scattered throughout the building on every floor.

Q: Where will the laundry room(s) be located?
A: Laundry rooms will be located on every floor where the south and west wings connect. Don't worry, laundry is still free to all residents of Mashburn Hall!

Q: Will there be a kitchen in the building?
A: There will be two community kitchens located on the first (courtyard level) and third floors.

Q: What are the prices for room and board?

Q: Will there be a game lounge?
A: There will be two game lounges located on the second (street level) and fourth floors.

Q: Will there be a computer lounge?
A: No, there are no computer lounges in Mashburn Hall. There are several common areas located throughout the building that are great for studying.

Q: How many RA's will be on staff?
A: We will be hiring 11 RAs and 1 Head Resident. You can view more information about being an RA and the application, here: https://www.daltonstate.edu/campus_life/resident-assistant.cms

Q: Will the building ADA accessible?
A: Yes. We will be able to accommodate different student needs as necessary. For more information, or to request a specific type of accommodation, please email housing@daltonstate.edu

Q: How will mailboxes work?
A: Resident mailboxes will be located off the main lobby outside the Residential Life offices. Students will receive an email to their Dalton State email once they have received a package or mail that will not fit in their mailbox to be picked up at the front desk.

Q: Will there be better wifi?
A: Yes! Our new company is providing better internet service throughout the building. Residents will be able to connect up to 5 different devices at a time for internet access without competing for internet speed.

Q: Will there be better cable?
A: Yes. We are switching providers to offer you higher quality programming including HD channels. The new line up will even include MTV!

Q: Is the Birdfeeder Student Food Pantry moving to the new building?
A: No. The Birdfeeder will be moving to the newly renovated Pope Student Center to be available to all Dalton State students. 

Q: Will the beds be loftable?
A: Currently the beds can be bunked and the beds themselves can be raised and lowered to provide better under the bed storage. We are currently investigating the possibility of working with a loft company to provide you with even more floor space.

Q: How are the rooms organized? Singles, Doubles, Quads?
A: Students will be able to choose from double occupancy, two bedroom suite, or students with 12 or more credit hours will also be able to choose from four bedroom and two bedroom single suites. Floor plans can be found on our website, here:

Q: Who is required to purchase a meal plan?
A: All students living in Mashburn Hall are required to purchase the basic meal plan, with the option to upgrade plans. When you complete your housing application, you should be given the option to choose your meal plan. Q: Will the floors be coed?
A: Yes, however, all bed spaces in a suite will house the same gender.

Q: Will there be any floors/wings dedicated to fraternity or sorority housing?
A: No. This will be the only residential building on campus, there will be no themed floors or wings at this time.

Q: Will the building still have a fire pit?
A: Yes. The new fire pit will be located in the courtyard of the building.

Q: Can pets be allowed?
A: No. Only fish in a 10 or less gallon tank are allowed in Mashburn Hall at Roadrunner Place.

Q: Will there be any distinction between underclassmen/upperclassmen?
A: No. All the styles of suites will be mixed on every floor throughout the building. Underclassmen (under 12 credit hours) are only eligible to live in the 2 Bedroom/1 Bath Shared Semi Suite.

Q: Do residents still have to leave during the breaks?
A: Yes. Residents will need to find other accommodations during the winter break. Typically only in season athletes, and international students have been approved to stay during the break.
